The ever evolving eCommerce and online marketplace world has seen another big shift. In a move that many are saying is a direct response to compete with Amazon, Google for the first time in 8 years will bring FREE listings into its Shopping results.
“What we’re seeing is that there are many, many retailers and small businesses that stand ready to serve shoppers, but don’t yet have a great way to connect with them digitally,” Bill Ready, Google’s president of commerce, tells The Verge. “We think that by doing this, it helps many more shoppers find what they’re looking for, but it also helps bring some quite needed relief to the retail and small business ecosystem.”
If you are thinking of listing your products on Amazon or already have, now you can easily add to Google’s Merchant Center and improve your possibilities to increase sales for free.
To get started, you’ll need to open a Google Merchant Center account and upload a product feed. Sellers must opt-in to “surfaces across Google” to be eligible for organic visibility, Google notes in the updated help center article.
